California Redemption Value (CRV)
Did you know that you pay a special tax on nearly every aluminum, glass, or plastic beverage bottle you buy? The tax is called California Redemption Value (CRV) and will be returned to you when you bring your bottles and cans to CRV centers. To find CRV centers in your area visit www.bottlesandcans.com.

Recyclable Containers
To find out if a certain brand’s containers are recyclable visit the Bottles and Cans website. Here are some general rules on what can be returned for CRV:
- Beer and mineral water
- Carbonated mineral water
- Carbonated soft drinks
- Coffee and tea drinks
- Distilled spirit coolers
- Fruit drinks
- Fruit juices packed in containers less than 46 ounces
- Non-carbonated water
- Sports drink
- Vegetable juice in containers 16 ounces or less
- Wine coolers
Free Curbside Recycling
Recology South Valley provides curbside recycling to all residents at no additional cost. Residents have one 64-gallon blue toter for all recyclable materials.
San Martin Transfer Station
The San Martin Transfer Station accepts recyclable materials free of charge. In addition to CRV containers you can take:
- Cardboard
- Mixed paper
- Newspaper
- Non-CRV plastic and glass
- Plastic bags
- Tin cans
Plastic bags are also accepted for recycling at your local grocery store. Please have your recyclables separated before you drop them off. For more information, visit the Recology South Valley website or call 408-842-3358 for additional information.

Accepted Materials
- Motor oil can be placed for collection in 1-gallon jugs provided by Recology, please do not use your own jugs.
- Oil filters can be recycled in a sealed plastic bag provided by Recology. Please do not use your own bags. Contact Recology at 408-842-3358.
- Yard waste and food scraps are collected in 96-gallon green toters. Additional green waste can be placed at the curb if bundled and labeled as yard waste. Items not accepted in the yard waste containers include: plastic bags/plastic wrap, liquids, styrofoam, palm fronds, pet waste, sod, dirt, rocks, and concrete.

Hazardous materials, dirt, and concrete are not accepted at curbside.

- Chip Board / Paper Board: cereal-type boxes, gift boxes, toilet paper/paper towel rolls
- Glossy Paper: magazines, catalogs, phone books
- Miscellaneous: junk mail, sticky notes, file folders, shoe boxes
- Standard Paper: white paper, colored paper, computer paper, construction paper, envelopes (windows ok), newspaper

- Blueprints or carbon paper
- Food bags
- Food liners
- Metallic or plastic-coated paper
- Napkins
- Paper dishware and utensils
- Products soiled with food
- Tissues
