You may have seen strange boxes like the one in this picture as you drive through Gilroy. No, you are not being filmed or speed checked for tickets! These are traffic count devices. A bit different than the classic black tubes you may have driven over in the past, but these devices do the same thing: counting the number of vehicles using the street at various times and days. They are not able or designed to gather information of a specific vehicle. The information collected is used by our engineers and consultants to plan for road improvements, evaluate the use of traffic control devices, and other road safety, maintenance and improvement planning.
