[ARCHIVED] New Stop Sign Installation at Church and 4th

Artboard 2Stop Sign Installation web

Intersection improvements at Church Street and 4th Street & Church Street and 5th Street are well underway. Please note that new all-way stop signs will be installed at Church and 4th Street as part of these intersection improvements. It is anticipated that these stop signs will be installed within the next few weeks.

Under the current configuration, motorists encounter stop signs on the east and westbound lanes of 4th Street. The new configuration will include stop signs on Church Street in the north and southbound lanes, making the intersection an all-way stop.

In addition to the stop signs, new high visibility crosswalks will be installed on Church Street at the intersection. Additionally, the intersections between 2nd and 5th Street will receive new lane striping to increase visibility.

Please help keep our community safe by obeying traffic signs and driving responsibly. Thank you.

The City of Gilroy is continually monitoring the Church Street corridor for possible improvements. In 2021 the City painted red curbs at key intersections to increase driver and pedestrian visibility, added signs to intersections to remind drivers that “cross traffic does not stop,” and installed new reflective signs to increase visibility.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the community, the City will continue to monitor the Church Street corridor for additional needs and possible improvements.

For more information regarding these improvements, please contact the Gilroy Public Works Department at 408-846-0223.
