Today, October 12, 2022, at 4:37 PM, the City received a petition for the recall of Council Member Rebeca Armendariz.

Starting tomorrow, Thursday, October 13, 2022, the Election Official, in accordance with Election Code, will conduct a prima facie count to determine if the petition has the minimum required number of signatures for filing. The minimum number of signatures needed for filing a petition for the City of Gilroy is 6,217.

The prima facie count will be held in Council Chambers on Thursday, October 13, 2022, starting at 8:30 AM. While petition pages and signatures are confidential and not open to public review, a designated seating area in Council Chambers will be open to the public for viewing of the overall prima facie process.

At the conclusion of the count, if the petition is found to have the minimum required signatures, then the Election Official will accept the petition for filing. Once accepted, the petition will be taken to the Registrar of Voters for verification.
